Cherry Blossom

Cherry blossom held at the height of its brief season.

Its petals are pale, translucent and seemingly weightless, gathered along the darker line of the branch. For a short time, the tree is transformed—then the blossom begins to fall.

Painted in watercolour and ink, this botanical portrait was created through close observation of the flower’s delicate structure. Fine ink lines describe the branch and stamens, while transparent washes of pink, cream and soft grey capture the changing light within each petal.

The beauty of cherry blossom lies partly in knowing it will not last. Its fleeting presence asks us to pay attention now, before the moment passes.
